Students in this class learn the fundamentals of composition though the lens of a camera. Emphasis is placed on the elements and principles of design: line, shape, form, value, color, texture, space, balance, contrast, rhythm, emphasis, pattern, and unity. These principles empower the students by providing them with a visual and verbal vocabulary.

The projects in the class are based on fun and intriguing prompts and provide ample opportunities fro individual expression and group collaborations. “Skewed perspective’” was the prompt for the c-clamp picture below.

The focus of this course is to assist students in applying the elements and principles of fine art and design to their own artwork through the examination of the fundamental techniques of drawing and painting media, both traditional and digital.

In addition to making creative works of art, students learn to think critically, collaborate, communicate/ critique, and be resilient. One of the most important goals of the course is to instill a sense of pride and accomplishment in young artists.
