I’m a San Francisco Bay Area educator and third-generation artist with more than 20 years of experience teaching and learning with students of all ages.

I love helping students discover their creative passions and activate their visual voices by introducing them to the right tools to showcase their ideas and talents, whether that means the most current digital art software or the most effective hammer for forging iron.  I delight in the challenge of building programs, formulating curricula, and setting up learning spaces all within a tight budget.  As a social, emotional, and academic advisor I ensure that my students feel seen, heard, and understood.  Mentoring new teachers, “talking shop,” and working on group projects with colleagues, students, and their family members are a few of my favorite ways to engage with my community.

My own artwork, while varying greatly in media and technique, is focused around artificial environments, immersive scenes, and visual narratives. Whether it’s a hidden figure beckoning the viewer into a diorama, the way a mushroom themed cheese knife rests in the hand, or the overall impact of hundreds of student tiles arranged together, my work encourages interaction and relationship.  I enjoy a process that takes lots of time, patience, and steps during the fast-fire rapid prototyping phase as well as during the careful mold making and fine finishing phases, especially when there are many bits and parts at play in the series of pieces I’m working on.  Ultimately, I find it fulfilling knowing that some commemorative pieces, from matrimonial jewelry to public sculpture, have longevity and may be enjoyed by generations; life is short but art is long.
