gifting their talents

For many years, my metal shop students have volunteered to collaborate on a functional piece of art to donate to school’s gala, the largest annual fund raising event for the school.

The projects featured below include: chess sets, a sushi service, a fondue set, utensils for an Oscars viewing party, wine glasses, bottle stoppers, and sterling silver pins.

gratitude gifts

In collaboration with the advancement department at the institution where I teach, I have created several different series of small batch gifts for our donors. Knives, bar sets, and bottle stoppers are some of types of gifts I make.

I also make one-of-a-kind gifts that we give to our graduation speakers, retiring board of trustee members , and others that have made incredible impacts on our school.

The Trees Knives series features ceramic handles created by pressing clay into the bark of trees on our campus. Making a connection to the life on campus.

The Acorn Bottle stopper quotes one of our favorite mottos '“always we begin again” - It illustrates stages of growth- tap root, mature acorn, and a new leaf.

The Old Monastery Bar Set is whittled from a piece of wood from our original monastery. I made a silicone mold of it and hand cast the handles in metal.
